I may be able to support you

It’s perfectly normal to seek assistance when you need it. Life brings its share of challenges and uncertainties for everyone.

With years of experience in psychology and family therapy, I can offer valuable assistance, support, and direction.

Hello, my name is Ros Yuen, I am a psychologist and family therapist practicing at Kensington.

Hello, my name is Ros Yuen, I am a psychologist and family therapist practicing near Beulah Park.

My mission is to partner with you to facilitate realistic and significant changes in your life if that’s your objective. I aim to interrupt the persistent loops of thought, feeling, and action that perpetuate your distress, and to introduce tools to help you progress.

I am deeply committed to guiding individuals through the journey of healing from stress and trauma, empowering them to lessen anxiety, triumph over depression, and forge enriching connections. In this contemporary landscape, it’s vital to develop the skills necessary to find contentment within ourselves, steering away from futile attempts to control the uncontrollable.

My services primarily take place in-office, offering face-to-face sessions, with the flexibility of telehealth consultations when necessary. For mental health emergencies, individuals will be promptly referred to the SA Mental Health Triage Services by calling 131465.

Psychological Assistance

Building momentum towards healthier, more resilient relationships with the aid of a mental health professional has the power to make a profound impact on your life’s direction.

Together, we can collaborate to enhance your relationship by equipping you with valuable skills and effective strategies, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling life. I focus on couple and family relationships, aiming to support you in various aspects of your journey.

The journey of intimate relationships often involves highs and lows, influencing multiple areas and presenting issues that may seem daunting to confront solo.

The fabric of family ties is comprised of diverse perspectives, objectives, behaviours, and interactions. These elements can give rise to intricate dynamics that pose challenges to the happiness and wellness of all involved.

Family transformations bring a mix of benefits and challenges. Blended families encounter specific obstacles demanding delicate and detailed support to overcome.

At first, being involved with a narcissist may feel thrilling and full of excitement. However, once their lack of genuine concern becomes apparent, these relationships can quickly sour, taking a turn for the worse.

Same-sex couples may deal with various factors that can benefit from a comprehensive approach from a professional who understands.

Dealing with workplace issues such as intimidation or harassment can pose significant challenges. Accessing professional support may be instrumental in managing and finding resolution amidst these issues.

If you have Private Health Insurance with Extras for Psychology, you can probably claim a rebate from your Health Funds. As Funds vary with their policies and levels of cover, it is best that you check directly with your Health Funds.

Under Medicare, rebates are available for individuals, not couples, through a Mental Health Plan arranged by your GP. This plan is active for 12 months and entitles you to a maximum of 10 sessions. Your GP may allocate 6 sessions initially, with an option for 4 more sessions after a review consultation.

For additional information on available rebates, please refer to this link.

All our sessions are confidential. Psychologists are legally bound by confidentiality except when subpoenaed by court or when there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person or if mandated to report.

As mandated reporters under the Firearms Regulations 2017, psychologists are legally required to report any suspected firearm injuries or unsafe firearm situations to the appropriate authorities.

Psychologists are mandated to report if they suspect on reasonable grounds that a child or young person is at risk of harm.

For further information on privacy and your legal rights, please visit this link.

Upon arrival, you’ll be requested to fill out an intake form in the waiting room. During the first session, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your concerns while I offer gentle guidance to help discuss any issues. You’ll also have a chance to assess my interpersonal style and determine if it aligns with your preferences. Typically, the intake process spans two sessions, and in the initial session, my goal is to provide attentive listening and support.

Our cancellation policy mandates a minimum of 48 business hours notice to facilitate scheduling adjustments for other clients. Cancellations made less than 48 business hours prior to the appointment or non-attendance will incur full fees. Further information on our cancellation policy can be found here.

The Gottman Approach

Employing diverse strategies to address particular challenges ensures personalised support for individuals or couples. Among the methods I employ is the Gottman Method, known for its effectiveness in fostering healthier relationships.

In couples therapy and marriage counselling, this approach emphasises three relationship profiles: the friendship profile, the conflict profile, and the shared meanings profile.

Interventions are customised to address the unique strengths and weaknesses of a couple’s relationship based on these profiles. Special attention is given to perpetual issues, solvable problems, and enhancing conflict resolution and communication skills.

Are you facing challenges with…?

Anger, though a common human emotion, can pose issues when handled destructively. Developing an understanding of your anger is pivotal to its control. Recognise triggers, heed warning signs, and adopt coping mechanisms to effectively manage them.

Continuous worry or intrusive thoughts that disrupt everyday functioning define ongoing anxiety. While experiencing occasional anxiety is natural, when it becomes prolonged or unmanageable, it surpasses regular responses to life’s challenges.

Compulsions carry significant weight as they can disrupt various aspects of functioning.

If your actions cause concern for yourself or those close to you and impact your life negatively, seeking tailored treatment can be beneficial for addressing your unique needs.

The seriousness of compulsions lies in their potential to disrupt multiple areas of functioning.

It’s normal to have periods of feeling low, but depression involves persistent and profound sadness. When left unaddressed, ongoing depression can escalate into a debilitating mental health challenge.

If you’re grappling with symptoms such as low energy, loss of interest in activities you typically enjoy, or a tendency to withdraw from social interactions, seeking support for a potential depressive disorder could be beneficial.

Feeling tense and anxious is a typical description of stress, which can serve as a short-term response, occasionally offering utility despite its discomfort. However, when stress becomes excessive and begins to impede your ability to function effectively, it calls for targeted strategies and coping techniques.

When something very frightening or threatening happens, a psychological wound can occur.

Traumatic experiences can have a significant impact. Signs and symptoms of issues connected to trauma may be physical, behavioural, emotional, or cognitive.

Obsessional thinking is often paired with repeated behaviour or ritual to reduce anxiety that accompanies the thinking.

This complex issue is often best dealt with through qualified and experienced professional support.

Issues such as insecure attachment, dismissive-avoidant attachment, fearful-avoidant attachment, and anxious-preoccupied attachment typically warrant thorough professional intervention.

Educate yourself on insecure attachment patterns and adopt behaviours that promote secure attachment interactions.
