Psychologist Adelaide
Seeking help is nothing to be ashamed about. Everybody goes through periods of turmoil and upheaval.
I am an experienced psychologist and family therapist in Kensington, Adelaide who can provide help, support and guidance.
I hope to support you to achieve realistic and meaningful changes in your life if that is your desire. My primary aim is to interrupt the existing patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that maintain your distress and to introduce new skills so that you can move on in life effectively.
I have a deep interest in helping people heal from stress and trauma, to help them reduce anxiety, conquer depression and build life-giving relationships. It is urgent today to acquire the skills to create our own sense of contentment by seeking more control over our own thoughts and deeds and foregoing misguided attempts at controlling those things that are simply uncontrollable. In short, it is enough that we learn to surf the waves of the ocean without shifting the shoreline.
My psychological therapy services are mainly office-based and in-person complemented by telehealth if required. My clinic is located in Kensington, Adelaide, close to the Adelaide CBD in South Australia. Any mental health emergency will be referred to the SA Mental Health Triage Services on 131465.

You can read more about fees any payment options here.
Do you offer online consultations?
Online consultations in the form of Zoom and Phone sessions are also available. I prefer to have met you once or twice at my office in Kensington for intake before commencing online consultations. Please be aware that some experiential interventions especially for couples are difficult to do. Individuals, couples, and families regularly travel from surrounding suburbs including Norwood, Beulah Park, Marryatville and Leabrook for sessions in person before considering online sessions.
Are there rebates available for our session?
If you have Private Health Insurance with Extras for Psychology, you can probably claim a rebate from your Health Funds. As Funds vary with their policies and levels of cover, it is best that you check directly with your Health Funds.
Medicare offers rebates for individuals, not couples, under a Mental Health Plan which is to be written by your GP. A Mental Health Plan has a shelf life of 12 months and during that period, you are entitled to 10 sessions assigned by your GP as 6 sessions, initially, and another 4 sessions following a review consult.
Find out more information on available rebates here.
Will our sessions remain confidential?
All our sessions are confidential. Psychologists are legally bound by confidentiality except when subpoenaed by court or when there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person or if mandated to report.
Psychologists are mandated reporters under the Firearms Regulations 2017. We are required to report suspected firearm injuries or any unsafe situations with firearms.
Psychologists are mandated to report if they suspect on reasonable grounds that a child or young person is at risk of harm.
You can find more information on privacy and your legal rights here.
What should I expect from the first appointment?
You will be asked to complete an intake form of several pages in the waiting room, then, the first session is for you to speak about your concerns with gentle guidance from me to make explicit what is implicit. You will also experience my interpersonal style and assess if I am the best psychologist for you.
I am a registered psychologist and qualified mental health professional, not a clinical psychologist.
Two sessions are usually needed to cover the intake process and my aim in the first session is to be an attuned listener to you and discover if I am the right psychologist for you. Counselling sessions are different for every client with a tailored approach, but they are fundamentally focused on evidence based therapies.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 48 business hours notice so that cancelled appointments can be offered to those on the waiting list. If cancellation occurs less than 48 business hours before the appointment and in the case of non-attendance, full fees will be charged. You can read more on our cancellation policy here.
Are you ready to make an appointment?
Whether you are looking for help and guidance with your romantic relationship or with relationships between your family or friends, you can find out more information regarding mental health problems and resources online here and book an initial consultation with me online to get started.
The Gottman Method
Taking different approaches when working to improve certain issues is important to cater for the specific needs of an individual or couple. One such technique that I implement is known as the Gottman Method.
This approach to couples therapy sessions and marriage counselling focuses on three profiles of relationships: the friendship profile, the conflict profile, and the shared meanings profile.
Interventions are tailored to the specific strengths and weaknesses of a couple’s relationship in terms of these profiles. There is a particular focus on perpetual issues, solvable problems, and conflict resolution and communication.
Do you struggle with?
Anger is a normal human emotion but becomes a mental health concern when expressed in harmful ways.
Learning to understand your anger is an important step towards managing it. Learn your triggers, warning signs, and relevant coping mechanisms and strategies.
Anxiety disorders are ongoing worry or thoughts that are distressing and that interfere with daily living.
Feeling anxious is part of being human, but when it becomes sustained or reaches unmanageable levels, anxiety is no longer a normal response to certain situations and may lead to an anxiety disorder.
People go through periods of feeling down, but being depressed you feel persistently sad. Persistent depression can become a disabling mental health condition.
If you are dealing with symptoms such as low energy levels, decreased interest in your usual passions, or a sense of withdrawal, you may require help for a depressive disorder.
Obsessive thoughts can focus on safety, germs, order or symmetry. Obsessional thinking is often paired with repeated behaviour or ritual to reduce anxiety that accompanies the thinking. Obsessive compulsive disorder is a complex issue often best dealt with through qualified and experienced professional support.
