Marryatville Psychologist
It’s perfectly normal to seek assistance when you need it. Life brings its share of challenges and uncertainties for everyone.
Drawing from my extensive background in psychology and family relationship therapy, I am well-equipped to offer assistance, support, and guidance.
Hello, my name is Ros Yuen, I am a psychologist and family therapist practicing near Marryatville.
My objective is to work alongside you to cultivate practical and meaningful shifts in your life if that’s what you seek. I aim to challenge the entrenched patterns of cognition, emotion, and behaviour that sustain your distress, and to introduce new techniques to empower you in moving forward.
My passion lies in helping individuals overcome stress and trauma, ease anxiety, defeat depression, and foster nourishing relationships. In today’s world, mastering the ability to cultivate inner peace by managing our thoughts and actions is crucial. It’s about embracing what we can influence while releasing the grip on what’s beyond our control—learning to navigate life’s currents without trying to alter its natural course.
My services are mainly office-based and in-person complemented by telehealth if required. Any mental health emergency will be referred to the SA Mental Health Triage Services on 131465.

My Psychology Services
Nurturing a shift towards stronger, more enduring relationships alongside a mental health professional’s assistance may mark a significant turning point in your life journey.
I can work with you to help you develop skills and strategies that may improve various aspects of your relationship and assist you to live a more fulfilling life. My areas of interest include couple relationships and family relationships.
It’s natural for intimate relationships to experience fluctuations, potentially leading to challenging issues that can be overwhelming to tackle alone.
Family relationships are complex, multi-dimensional, and layered. The combination of different views, objectives, behaviours, and actions has the potential to result in complicated dynamics that may hinder happiness and well-being.
Family transformations bring a mix of benefits and challenges. Blended families encounter specific obstacles demanding delicate and detailed support to overcome.
Being in a relationship with a narcissist can often start out well, being fun and exciting before tuning into very bad ones once a lack of genuine caring becomes evident.
Same-sex couples encounter diverse challenges that can benefit from a holistic approach from a knowledgeable professional.
Coping with workplace challenges like intimidation or harassment can feel overwhelming. Engaging with professional support services may offer valuable assistance in navigating and resolving these situations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge for your sessions?
The session fee for an individual is $240 for appointments from 8AM to 4PM. The fee for appointments later than 4PM is $265.
Couple consultations are $290 within regular hours and $315 for later appointments. Â
Family sessions are charged at $120 per person.
Further details on fees and payment options can be found HERE.
Do you offer online consultations?
I offer online consultations through Zoom and Phone sessions as well. However, I typically prefer to meet clients once or twice for intake before starting online sessions. It’s important to note that certain interventions, particularly those involving couples, may pose challenges in an online format.
Are there opportunities for rebates on session fees?
If you have Private Health Insurance with Extras for Psychology, you can probably claim a rebate from your Health Funds. As Funds vary with their policies and levels of cover, it is best that you check directly with your Health Funds.
Under Medicare, rebates are available for individuals, not couples, through a Mental Health Plan arranged by your GP. This plan is active for 12 months and entitles you to a maximum of 10 sessions. Your GP may allocate 6 sessions initially, with an option for 4 more sessions after a review consultation.
To learn more about the rebates currently offered, visit this resource.
Will our sessions remain confidential?
Rest assured, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our sessions. Psychologists adhere to strict ethical and legal guidelines that protect your privacy, except under circumstances such as a court order or if there is a credible threat of harm to yourself or others, requiring mandated reporting.
Under the Firearms Regulations 2017, psychologists are mandated reporters, meaning we must report any suspected firearm injuries or unsafe firearm situations to ensure the safety of individuals and the community.
Psychologists are legally obliged to report any reasonable suspicion of harm to a child or young person.
You can find more information on privacy and your legal rights here.
What should I prepare for during our first appointment together?
When you arrive, you’ll be asked to fill out an intake form in the waiting room. The first session is dedicated to exploring your concerns, with my gentle guidance to unearth any underlying issues. You’ll also have the chance to experience my interpersonal style and determine if it resonates with you. Typically, the intake process spans two sessions, and during the initial session, my primary focus is on being an empathetic listener, fully present to your needs.
What should we expect with your cancellation policy?
We kindly ask for a minimum of 48 business hours notice for cancellations to accommodate those on our waiting list. In the event of cancellation less than 48 business hours before the appointment or non-attendance, full fees will be charged. For further details, please refer to our cancellation policy.
Are you ready to make an appointment?
If you’re seeking support for your romantic relationship or addressing issues within your family or friend circles, you’ll find valuable information and resources available online here. Take the first step by scheduling your initial consultation with me online.
The Gottman Method
Adapting various approaches to address specific issues is crucial to meet the unique needs of individuals or couples. One effective technique I utilise is called the Gottman Method.
When conducting couples therapy and marriage counselling, this approach prioritises three relationship profiles: the friendship profile, the conflict profile, and the shared meanings profile.
Interventions are tailored to the specific strengths and weaknesses of a couple’s relationship in terms of these profiles. There is a particular focus on perpetual issues, solvable problems, and conflict resolution and communication.

Are you facing challenges with…?
While anger is a natural human emotion, it can become problematic when expressed destructively. Understanding your anger is key to its management. Identify triggers, recognise warning signs, and adopt effective coping strategies.
Continuous worry or intrusive thoughts that disrupt everyday functioning define ongoing anxiety. While experiencing occasional anxiety is natural, when it becomes prolonged or unmanageable, it surpasses regular responses to life’s challenges.
Compulsion can be serious as it can impair the way one functions in many areas.Â
If your behaviour or actions are worrying you or your loved ones and are negatively affecting your life, you may benefit from comprehensive treatment that is developed for your specific needs.
While everyone experiences occasional lows, depression entails persistent and overwhelming sadness. Prolonged depression can evolve into a debilitating mental health condition.
Experiencing symptoms like reduced energy, diminished interest in once-enjoyed activities, or a tendency to withdraw may indicate the need for assistance with managing a depressive disorder.
Stress is often associated with sensations of tension and apprehension, serving as a transient experience that may have adaptive qualities despite its discomfort. Nevertheless, when stress reaches harmful levels and starts to disrupt your capacity to function optimally, it demands focused strategies and coping mechanisms.
Instances of extreme fear or threat can leave psychological scars in their wake. Traumatic events wield significant power, often exhibiting themselves through a range of physical, behavioural, emotional, or cognitive signs and symptoms associated with trauma-related challenges.
Obsessional thinking is frequently accompanied by repetitive behaviours or rituals aimed at easing the anxiety provoked by those thoughts. Dealing with this multifaceted issue typically requires the work of qualified and experienced professionals.
Challenges related to insecure attachment, dismissive-avoidant attachment, fearful-avoidant attachment, and anxious-preoccupied attachment typically call for extensive professional assistance.
