Your Local Glenside Psychologist
Seeking help is nothing to be ashamed about. Everybody goes through challenges and seeking help is not something to be ashamed of.
I am an experienced psychologist and family relationship therapist who can provide help, support and guidance.
Hello, I’m Ros Yuen, a psychologist and family therapist serving the community around Glenside.
My goal is to collaborate with you in fostering purposeful transformations in your life. I strive to disrupt the unhelpful cycles of thought, emotion, and action that can hurt you, and to introduce fresh strategies so you can navigate life on your terms.
I have a deep interest in helping people heal from stress and trauma, to help them reduce anxiety, conquer depression and build life-giving relationships. It is urgent today to acquire the skills to create our own sense of contentment by seeking more control over our own thoughts and deeds and foregoing misguided attempts at controlling those things that are simply uncontrollable. In short, it is enough that we learn to surf the waves of the ocean without shifting the shoreline.
I primarily offer office-based consultations, supplemented by telehealth options as required. In cases of mental health emergencies, individuals will be directed to seek assistance from the SA Mental Health Triage Services by dialling 131465 without delay.

Psychological Assistance
Nurturing a shift towards stronger, more enduring relationships alongside a mental health professional’s assistance may mark a significant turning point in your life journey.
Let’s embark on a journey to strengthen your relationship and enrich your life. Through tailored skills and strategies, I aim to empower you to navigate challenges effectively. My focus lies in fostering healthy couple and family dynamics, addressing your well-being.
Ups and downs are a common part of intimate relationships, giving rise to a range of challenges that may feel overwhelming to address independently.
Family connections are intricate, multifaceted, and rich with layers. When diverse perspectives, goals, behaviours, and interactions intersect, they can cause complex dynamics that might impede overall happiness and wellness.
As families evolve, it’s a journey filled with both joys and challenges. Blended families, in particular, encounter distinct hurdles that call for a thoughtful and nuanced approach to navigate successfully.
At first, being involved with a narcissist may feel thrilling and full of excitement. However, once their lack of genuine concern becomes apparent, these relationships can quickly sour, taking a turn for the worse.
Same-sex couples may deal with various factors that can benefit from a comprehensive approach from a professional who understands.
Challenges like workplace intimidation or harassment can be incredibly daunting to navigate, given their intricate dynamics. Seeking professional support could prove pivotal in addressing and overcoming such issues.

Online consultations in the form of Zoom and Phone sessions are also available. I prefer to have met you once or twice for intake before commencing online consultations. Please be aware that some experiential interventions especially for couples are difficult to do.
Do you provide rebates for sessions?
If your Private Health Insurance includes Extras for Psychology, you might be entitled to claim a rebate from your Health Fund. Since coverage can differ based on policies and levels, it’s recommended to confirm the specifics directly with your Health Fund.
Medicare provides rebates for individuals, not couples, through a Mental Health Plan prescribed by your GP. The plan is valid for 12 months, granting you access to a total of 10 sessions. Initially, your GP may allocate 6 sessions, with an additional 4 sessions available following a review consultation.

Psychologists are mandated to report if they suspect on reasonable grounds that a child or young person is at risk of harm.

What can I anticipate during the initial appointment?
You will be asked to complete an intake form of several pages in the waiting room, then, the first session is for you to speak about your concerns with gentle guidance from me to make explicit what is implicit. You will also experience my interpersonal style and assess if I am the right fit for you. Two sessions are usually needed to cover the intake process and my aim in the first session is to be an attuned listener to you.
What should we expect with your cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 48 business hours notice so that cancelled appointments can be offered to those on the waiting list. If cancellation occurs less than 48 business hours before the appointment and in the case of non-attendance, full fees will be charged. You can read more on our cancellation policy here.

The Gottman Approach
Recognising the importance of tailoring approaches to suit individual or couple needs, I integrate various techniques. One method I frequently use is the Gottman Method, renowned for its ability to address relationship issues effectively
This approach to couples therapy sessions and marriage counselling focuses on three profiles of relationships: the friendship profile, the conflict profile, and the shared meanings profile.
Tailored interventions are designed to address the individual strengths and weaknesses of a couple’s relationship, as identified within these profiles. Emphasis is placed on addressing perpetual issues, tackling solvable problems, and enhancing conflict resolution and communication abilities.

Do you struggle with…?
While anger is inherent to human nature, its expression in harmful ways can lead to problems. Mastering your anger begins with comprehension. Identify triggers, acknowledge warning signs, and embrace coping mechanisms to effectively navigate this emotion.
Ongoing worry or thoughts that are distressing and that interfere with daily living.Â
Feeling anxious is part of being human, but when it becomes sustained or reaches unmanageable levels, anxiety is no longer a normal response to certain situations.
When your behaviour raises concerns among yourself or your loved ones and begins to detrimentally affect your life, pursuing personalised treatment can provide the support needed to address these challenges effectively.
Compulsions can have a profound impact on daily functioning, warranting attention.
It’s normal to have periods of feeling low, but depression involves persistent and profound sadness. When left unaddressed, ongoing depression can escalate into a debilitating mental health challenge.
Symptoms like decreased energy, lack of interest in previously enjoyable pursuits, or feelings of isolation may signal the need for assistance in addressing a depressive disorder.
Stress is often associated with sensations of tension and apprehension, serving as a transient experience that may have adaptive qualities despite its discomfort. Nevertheless, when stress reaches harmful levels and starts to disrupt your capacity to function optimally, it demands focused strategies and coping mechanisms.
Experiencing something deeply frightening or threatening can result in psychological wounds. Traumatic events carry substantial consequences, manifesting in physical, behavioural, emotional, or cognitive signs and symptoms associated with trauma-related issues.
Obsessive thinking frequently accompanies repetitive behaviours or rituals aimed at alleviating the anxiety linked to those thoughts. Addressing this intricate issue is often most effective with the guidance of qualified and experienced professionals.
Gain insight into insecure attachment patterns and cultivate behaviours that align with secure attachment styles.
Addressing issues like insecure attachment, dismissive-avoidant attachment, fearful-avoidant attachment and anxious-preoccupied attachment often necessitates comprehensive professional guidance.
Develop an understanding of insecure attachment dynamics and adopt behaviours conducive to secure attachment patterns.
